Status update and more work with CHDK

Here is a sample video shot today. the image quality is getting better. 25 miles per test ride is helping me keep in shape. For every blog post I probably have about 5-10 rides in between testing different camera settings and mounting options.  There are not enough frames per second.  This video has about 1700 frames stretched over 90 seconds.  Tech details after the jump.

Testing With CHDK

Bike ride Test using Canon SD870 camera with CHDK hacked firmware. Using Omni Intervalometer Script #3 Variables: Continuous mode, burst (#3) 10 bursts before auto focus. Image sequence imported into Adobe Cs5 after effects. color, contrast, and levels correction, speed adjustments and auto overlays adjusted in premier pro cs5

This is only 40 megs of raw footage and about 400 frames per mile. Much better.

Comming together -1st results

Notes about this test video:
  • Filmed in Patterson Park Baltimore, May 7, 2010
  • No audio in this version
The next version:
  • Maps more opaque
  • Add informational text overlay (stop for water, name of trail, trail highlights, bathroom)
  • Parks & People just completed an audio tour- hope to use this or other audio tours in the future.
  • More shaking can be removed.
I am going to continue to test new methods to improve the results and lower the amount of time needed to create each one of these videos.
Ignite Baltimore 6 is 108 days away.  At this event I will be presenting the results of the quickexplore project.
